How the gold price in Egypt is calculated
Gold is priced worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams of pure gold). The price per gram in Egypt is that ounce price divided by 31.1035, multiplied by the purity of the karat, then converted to pounds at the dollar rate. So Egyptian gold prices move with two things: the world gold price and the dollar against the pound.
